Remember the Schwinn Paramount? Back in the day, it was the premier American road bike, prized by pros and amateurs alike for its classic design and smooth crafsmanship. Seemingly nudged by nostalgia over its long absence, Schwinn are bringing back the Paramount in three flavours for 2009. The Series 9 and Series 8 share the same N'Litened Black Label carbon frame and fork, with the former boasting an integrated seatpost, SRAM Red components and Mavic R-SYS wheels, and the latter, Rival groupset and Mavic Aksium rollers. "What, no lugs?," retro-grouches might ask. Well, that's where the third model comes in. Apparently, the frame with lugged joints is handbuilt in Waterford, Wisconsin (probably by the folks at Waterford Precision Cycles) using Reynolds 953 tubing. No word yet on how much the new Paramounts will cost. More
