Weight weenies are fastidious creatures who'll go to great lengths and spare no expense to make their bikes as light as a new-born infant. A sub-10lb build is often the ultimate goal, though it's an elusive prospect to those who don't have a whole lotta of cash to burn. But rides lighter than the UCI-mandated weight limit of 15lb (6.8kg), like this sub-13lb Pedal Force RS2, are becoming pretty common, though you have to wonder if these noodly (the price you pay for superlight components) machines will make you go any faster than a clunky but sensibly-spec'd and reliably safe and solid 18-pounder. Hardcore roadie Günter Mai, who probably counts weight as his biggest enemy, rides what's possibly one of the world's lightest bikes ever. His 3.3kg (7.2lb) custom carbon steed has apparently held steady through thousands of kilometres of fast riding, though there're some performance/comfort tradeoffs, like a 6-speed cassette, superthin bartape and narrow bars.
